Saint Valentines Day

We celebrate Valentines Day every year of February 14th, but do you really know anything about it? Where did it originate? How much money is spent? Where is it celebrated? Well I've done some research and learned a few interesting things. It originated in 496 BC. Pope Gelasius declared February 14th as Saint Valentines Day because of what is suspected to have happened when Valentine was alive. Valentine was a priest that continued to marry couples even though the Emperor of Rome Claudius II decided he wanted single men to join his army. Claudius was infuriated and had him jailed. While in jail he sat and talked with the jailors daughter, and became very close to her. On the day he was executed, February 14th 296 BC he wrote a letter to the jailors daughter and signed it "From Your Valentine". Whether that is the truth or just a cute myth it is still an interesting idea.
Now we can send greeting cards to anyone saying "Happy Valentines Day", but it used to be that people would handwrite declarations of love to whomever they wanted to know they loved them. Greeting cards for Valentines day started in Great Britian in 1847, and has now turned into the large billion dollar "Hallmark Holiday". It is sad to say that a day of true love has turned into a day of how much you can spend. It doesn't have to be that way though. You can still buy cards and candy, but when you write in the card to the person instead of signing your name why not write a note of why you are giving them the Valentine. Even if you aren't romantically in love with the person you can still tell them why you love them.
It is also believed that Romantic love was never associated with Valentines Day until Geoffry Chaucer, a famous writer, wrote a poem for King Richard II and his soon to be wife Anne of Bohemia. In the poem he wrote:
For this was on seynt Volantynys day
When eury byrd comyth there to chese his make
Meaning
For this on Saint Valentines Day
When every bird comes to chose his mate
It has been believed that is the first time that romantic love was created for Valentines Day. Scholars, however, believe that this cannot be true because birds rarely mate in February but rather in May. The treaty for the Kings marriage was signed on May 2nd which is also a day that another Saint Valentine was executed.
There are also those that do not like to observe this day, because they believe the commercialism has gone too far. I personally think it is a fun day, and although I am without a Valentine it is still sweet that people with busy schedules and hectic lives take a second to realize the person they love.
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are both heavily islamic nations, and have decided that Valentines Day is banned. Saudi see's it as a religious day, and Pakistan thinks that those who celebrate it are all sex thirsty so we are trying to quench that thirst.
Besides those two places Valentines Day is observed all around the world, some for friendship, some for love, some for fun. It doesn't matter if you're dating someone, married, or single. You can still have fun on Valentines Day. Like me, today I think I'll go to the gym!
Happy Valentines Day, Dia Dos Namorados, San Valentin, Valentinsdag, Ystävänpäivä, Día del Amor y la Amistad
Wherever you are from have a happy one!

Fluoride

What flavor fluoride do you choose? Cherry, mint, strawberry, orange, or regular? I used to choose the Cherry flavor. If I was going to sit there for a minute with my mouth shoved open and a tube sucking all my slobber out I might as well have a flavor I like right? Now when I am asked this question I just say "No thank you." I've learned what fluoride does to your teeth is ok, but what it does to your brain isn't good at all. Have you ever heard of Prozac? nerve gas? rat poison? Then what about toothpaste? mouth wash? drinking water? All of the things that were just listed all contain fluoride.
***The very first occurrence of purposefully putting sodium fluoride into drinking water was in the German ghettos and in Nazi Germany's infamous prison camps. The Gestapo you see had little concern about sodium fluoride's 'supposed' effect on children's teeth; instead, their reason for mass-medicating water with sodium fluoride was to STERILIZE HUMANS and force the people in their concentration camps into calm, bovine, submission.***
Although our consumption of fluoride through water and toothpaste isn't as large of an amount as was given to those in the prison camps, if you think about a tiny leak in the ceiling and you place a bucket under it to catch the water slowly but surely that bucket will fill. Although you may not feel the effects maybe your children will or their children.
Fluoride isn't a natural ingredient in water. It's H2O(one part hydrogen 2 parts oxygen) not H2OF. That means they are placing an unecessary chemical into the water. We don't need it so why is it there? Even though you may not be getting any side effects from fluoride consumption you should think about the future of your family. You can start taking precautions now no matter your age.
Some products that you may use that are fluoride free:
1. Toothpastes
-Toms of Maine(many flavors and kinds)
-Dr. Sharp
-JASON Powersmile (what I use)
2. Mouth Wash
-Toms of Maine(many flavors and kinds)
-Dr. Sharp
3. Water
-There isn't a brand of water that I know of that doesn't have some fluoride in it. You can buy filters online that help remove all or most of the fluoride.

Jeans

Why is it when you go into one store and try on, lets say, a size 7 and it looks magical but then you walk into another store and try on a 7 you can't even get them past your hips? Did you gain weight walking from store to store?! IMPOSSIBLE! There are a few factors you should take into account. #1 Material- different stores/brands use different material. Some use rougher tougher jean material, and others use softer elastic material. #2 Standards- some stores/brands see people differently. There are jeans that are perfect for people with different hip size, thigh size, butt size, waist size, and height. Just finding the combination that works for you can be tough. #3 You- Just because you were a 13 last year doesn't mean this year you are. People force themselves into jeans that don't fit, and think that has to be their size. I know I am not the funnest person to go shopping with because I'm different sizes in each store. Here are a few tips I use, they definatly can help boost my confidence. When I shop for jeans I go in and grab three pairs of the same jean to try on, the size I would suspect I am a size lager and a size smaller. When I'm in the dressing room I try on the largest size, if it fits great! If it doesn't then I try on the next pair. Now if they seem to fit and i can breathe and there is no muffin-toppage going on then I'll get them but if they don't then I go back to the larger pair. Even if they were too big I can still get them taken in. That just means I get what I like to think of as custon jeans.
I'm short, I have big hips, some extra weight, and I like fitted jeans. That combination tends to be impossible! I've gotten jeans several sizes bigger just to have them taken in to be what I want. And even though they were bigger I didn't sulk about size because I still had to have them taken in.
I'm also losing a lot of weight so having jeans that don't end up around my ankles is hard so this is what I've done. I have jeans for the size I am now, the size I was before, and the size I will be next. That way I can take in the larger jeans soon, wear the jeans that fit now, and look at what I'm going to look like in a few months! But even then they might not fit they way I like so it's always good to have a handy dandy tailor!
Jean shopping doesn't have to be a complete nightmare! If you find a pair you like buy a few of them and add a patch or some rinestones to the pocket to change them up. No on said you can't have more of the same pair!
Happy Shopping!
